Behind the Tariffs: Can India–US Relations Recover? A Vedic Perspective.
As Political tension flared between India and the USA in mid-2025, is this just a temporary turbulence or a long-term unravelling of a once-strategic friendship?
Vedic astrology offers surprising insights into this diplomatic dilemma –
The political context: Tariffs, Trust, Deficit and Tensions.
The US, under President Trump, recently escalated trade pressure by imposing 50% tariffs on Indian imports, citing India’s continued oil trade with Russia.
NOW:
India’s Astrological Chart – 15-August-1947 12:00 A.M, Delhi.
Taurus Ascendant: Rahu in Ascendant, Mars in 2nd, Mercury, Moon, Venus(combust), Saturn(Combust), and Sun in 3rd, Jupiter in 6th.
By examining India’s Natal chart, we can see a multiple malefic stellium in the 3rd house, with the third lord, Moon (waned), indicating that India has had and will continue to have a complex relationship with its neighbours.
India's Current Transit:
Rahu in the 10th: Public Image Is affected, foreign policy is unpredictable, and Conflict can arise with Superior countries, as well as Leadership problems or changes can occur.
Saturn in 11th: Pressure on Alliances (Friendship-related tension), trade blocks, slow gains, tension with partner, etc.
Mars in 5th: Aggressive stand in diplomacy, disputes over national Ideology.
Current Dasha Of India Moon –Sun will remain up to 11/9/2025, then Mars Mahadasha will start.
So Moon, the 3rd lord of India, afflicted and waning in the natal chart, shows India will suffer conflicts with her neighbours in her Dasha.
AMERICA’S Astrological Chart: - 4-July -1776, 5:10 P.M, Philadelphia, U.S.A.
Sagittarius Ascendant: Moon in 3rd Aquarius, Mars in 7th, Mercury, Sun, Venus and Jupiter in 8th house, Saturn exalted in 11th.
Now, if we analyse the US chart, we find multiple natural benefic planets in the 8th, especially 10th lord mercury and the 11th lord Venus.
Now 8th house shows Hidden Karma, Sudden transformation, Research, Secrets, Secret agencies, etc.
So the USA’s real strength lies in what is hidden: CIA, NSA, Secret trade control, financial regulation from behind the scenes. Also 8th house is a bad house; it means Sudden collapses and rising (Economic boom/crisis).
The U.S is bound to influence the world through deep secret control, not visible action.
Mars in the 7th shows: Open clash with foreign powers, tends to clash with allies, dominates partnerships. Wars are often justified as protecting democracy, but serve internal power interests, etc.
Saturn in the 11th shows long-term Global control networks through systematic alliances like NATO, IMF and long-lasting, structured power.
USA’s Current transit:
Mars in 10th: Assertive dominance on the world stage.
Saturn in 4th: Domestic rigidity, inward focus.
Rahu in 3rd: Media aggression and Jupiter with Venus in 7th: Problem with alliances as Rahu is aspecting the 7th house currently.
Now, correlating both countries' transit, we can see:
Rahu in India’s 10th with US 3rd: Sudden global moves.
Mars is in India’s 5th whereas the USA’s 10th: Ego clashes, military or economic assertion.
Saturn in India’s 11th, USA’s 4th: India wants long-term cooperation, USA turns inwards.
Now upcoming Mars Mahadash, what does it mean for India?
Mars rules India’s 7th and 12th, occupying 2nd in the natal chart, so
India will now speak boldly, pursue economic assertiveness with problems and possibly reshape its diplomatic strategy altogether.
What we can expect:
· A shift towards nationalism and military assertiveness.
· Tougher trade stances.
· Conflict detachment is also due to Rahu transit aspecting the 2nd, but slowly transitions to a self-defined partnership on India’s terms.
Relationship with America In India’s Mars Mahadasha :
Now, India-U.S. relation is not doomed, but a surface-level tension has started. By seeing and comparing both charts, Mars, whose dasha is going to start, is India’s 7th and 12th lord occupying the 7th house in America's chart. The 7th house sees direct opposition, so from my small brain analysis, I think the relationship will not be as smooth as before, whereas tension can rise to the worst.
Final Insights:
“USA and India are two great democratic powers, must rise above short-term frictions and take joint responsibility to renew and rewrite a historic friendship for a greater global future.”
Note: Astrology provides insightful patterns, not absolute certainties. Interpret with care.
